California Enacts Broad Privacy Laws Modeled on GDPR

On June 28, 2018, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (AB 375). However, unlike the European Union’s GDPR, AB 375 generally permits opt-out rather than opt-in consent as a basis for collection, use or sale of personal information and does not prohibit specific practices.
