Disk Rot Claims Historic 9/11 Photos— A cache of 2,400 photographs was recovered, shot by a worker helping to clean up the wreckage on the site of the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York City.

While doctored videos or photos are sometimes labeled deepfakes, true deepfaked files are typically created using algorithms that create composites of existing footage, effectively “learning” to identify faces and voices and combining them to create new content.
