We chose Human Rights as the focus of our first and largest thematic web archive collection due to the importance of human rights as a field of study at Columbia University, where we have two academic centers devoted to the subject: the Human Rights Institute at Columbia Law School; and the interdisciplinary Institute for the Study of Human Rights.

At the national level, campaign websites have been regularly archived by both the Library of Congress but also existing crawling criteria used by the Wayback Machine at the Internet Archive, facilitating access to historical candidate websites for both citizens and researchers.
