Archive-It and the Internet Archive’s Web & Data Services team welcomed two new software engineers this past winter. They are excited to continue contributing to updates and improvements in web crawling, archival replay, and to developing our new suite of Digital Preservation Services. Please join us in welcoming Chad and Mike to the team!

Chad Nelson comes to Archive-It in 2022 as Software Engineer from the Library of Congress, where he worked as a Software Developer on various digital preservation and copyright projects. After earning a Masters of Library and Information Studies from University College London, Chad eventually found himself working as a systems librarian, where he began steadily growing his technical skills before moving on to work as a software developer for various university libraries. Chad is fascinated by the scale of data in which the Internet Archive manages and sees his new role with Archive-It as an interesting opportunity to keep one foot in the library world while continuing to develop his technical and software engineering skills. He is especially looking forward to learning more about the maintenance required to keep existing collections running smoothly and optimizing those processes. Originally hailing from Chicago, Chad now lives in Philadelphia where he enjoys studying French, running a Dungeons and Dragons campaign for his friends, and watching European football (and especially cheering on Arsenal when he can!).
Mike Wilson joined the Archive-It team as Senior Software Engineer in 2022. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Before coming to the Internet Archive, Mike worked primarily in commercial settings and is now pleased to be operating in a non-profit space and contributing to projects that he believes make the world a slightly better place. He is particularly looking forward to making our digital preservation services the best that they can be. Mike has lived in various cities across the U.S., including Chicago and Minneapolis in the Midwest and Seattle. He currently resides in Astoria, Oregon where, weather permitting, he enjoys spending time outdoors hiking or camping in his free time in addition to aspiring to becoming handy.
