This post will explain how to setup Internet Access for a Hak5 WiFi Pineapple using a USB WiFi adapter connected directly to the Pineapple.

By connecting a USB WiFi adapter, you add “wlan2” to the ports available for connections.
The new “wlan2” port you gain will allow your Pineapple to operate in WiFi “Client Mode” on a port that is not ‘wlan1’, which will not interfere with PineAP.
We recommend using the Ralink RT5370 USB WiFi Adapter for maximum compatibility. It is tested and known to work.
Before beginning these steps, ensure the WiFi network you wish to connect to provides Internet access using a separate device.
- Plug the USB WiFi adapter into the Pineapple
- Power on Pineapple and login to Pineapple web interface
- Go to the “Networking” tab on the Pineapple web interface
- Look for “WiFi Client Mode” section:
- Select “wlan2” from the drop-down menu (Note: Choosing wlan1 will interfere with PineAP)
- Click “Scan” to find available WiFi networks that your Pineapple can connect to
- Select the appropriate WiFi network from the “Access Point” drop-down box
- Enter the WiFi password
- A few boxes down, below the WiFi network details, click “Connect”
- The ‘thinking pineapple’ icon will appear
- If the field next to “IP” is blank after performing the Connect, the connection was not successful. Check your WiFi credentials, click the “Disconnect” button, and try again.
- If the field next to “IP” contains an IP address, the connection was successful, and you should be connected to the Internet e.g.:
To validate Internet connectivity is working on the Pineapple, you can do one of several things, including:
- On the “Dashboard” tab, under the “Bulletins” heading, click “Load Bulletins” button
- Under the Modules Tab, on the “Manage Modules” sub-tab, click “Get Modules from WiFiPineapple.com” button
- On “Advanced” tab, under the “Firmware Update” heading, click “Check for Upgrades” button
