Catch up on all things Archive-It from 2017

The latest quarterly open call with Internet Archive’s Director of Web Archiving, Jefferson Bailey, and Archive-It’s Senior Program Manager, Lori Donovan, was a comprehensive survey of all things Archive-It in 2017. If you missed or want to revisit topics covered live via webinar, you can review the agenda and watch a recording here in Archive-It’s Community Forum.

Partners in the news

A diverse collection of stories about the practice and use of web archives circulated at the end of 2017. At the national scale, Science Friday took a deep dive into web archiving with the Internet Archive and colleagues at the Library of Congress, Environmental Data and Governance Initiative, and nationwide data refuge efforts, while The Washington Post zeroed in on captures by partners at the Department of Health and Human Services in its reporting on controversial changes at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Community Webs partners are getting noticed, too! Local reporters in Grand Rapids, MI and Patagonia, AZ might find their own content within the collections created by their own public libraries. And, on campus, the Rochester Institute of Technology’s Reporter and the Cornell Chronicle demonstrate why and how academic faculty, library staff, and students archive the web for future research.

Updates from the field

Archive-It team members also met with many partners and friends around the country in the fall and winter of 2017. To catch up on the web archiving discussions at meetings and conferences from coast to coast, check out the summary blog post: Notes from the field: Fall/Winter 2017.

Install the new Archive-It Proxy Mode add-on for Firefox

Archive-It’s one-click button for toggling between “live” and “Proxy mode” Wayback views of archived content just got an update for the new Firefox Quantum web browser. If you use the toggle in your QA process, you can find and install the new version here and read up on its UI improvements here.

Have your say: Web archiving training needs

Our colleagues at the International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) need your input as they prepare new training resources for web archivists. Take their survey by the end of this month to let them know what training gaps they can fill and resources they can provide that would be most helpful to you.

Recorded and upcoming advanced training

Archive-It’s own advanced training series will continue in the new year, including the regular Advanced Scoping webinar and additional live training opportunities for collecting, managing, and using web archives. Use this registration form to sign up for our next offerings: a look “under the hood” at some the Archive-It team’s own most used tips and tools, and a reprise of our guide to archiving video content. You can also watch recordings of the 2017 webinars here in the Archive-It Help Center.
