All Archive-It partners and friends are welcome to join an afternoon meeting on Friday, August 2, 2019, to share web archiving ideas, questions, tech, and more. The meeting coincides with ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2019, the joint annual meeting of the Society of American Archivists (SAA) and Council of State Archivists (CoSA), in Austin, Texas. A reception will follow immediately afterwards, co-hosted with our friends from ArchivesSpace.

Details are available and will be continuously updated on the partner meeting’s webpage. There is no cost to attend, however space is limited, so please register at your earliest convenience and we’ll save you a seat! To propose talk and discussion topics, reach out to the Archive-It team directly at: aitmeetings [at] archive [dot] org.

Community News

Welcome Pete and Madeline!

The Internet Archive’s Web Group welcomed two new members this spring: Technical Support Specialist Pete Mitchell and Partner Coordinator Madeline Carruthers. Archive-It partners will get to know both early and well through their direct technical and administrative support. In the meantime please join us in saying: Welcome Pete and Madeline!

What belongs in a community web archive?

With the sheer vastness of the resources available on the web, how does a local history collection decide what it needs to collect for its community’s future? Web Archivist Sylvie Rollason-Cass reviews how public libraries are making these decisions and shares example policies in her new Archive-It Blog post, What belongs in a community web archive?   • ArtSlant Archive: Website ArtSlant announces that its years of artist interviews, profiles, exhibition and gallery records will be archived by the Library of Congress and New York Art Resources Consortium.
     
  • Distinctive Collections opens web archives to the public: Partner Joe Carrano announced the opening of web archives created by and about the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
     
  • Preserving Canadian Government Information: Partners Katie Cuyler (University of Alberta) and Nick Worby (University of Toronto) on archiving online resources before changes in government.

Tech and Training

Release: WASAPI v1

All Archive-It partners may now use the Web Archiving Systems API, or “WASAPI” for short, in order to find and download their WARC files and related technical metadata. See the recorded training webinar, instructions, and more resources here in the Archive-It Help Center if you download your WARCs for preservation and access.

Advanced training

The Archive-It Advanced Training webinar series returns with an introduction to the Partner Data API on Wednesday, August 21. Register here to join us and learn about sharing web archive information across platforms.
