Cloud security firm Zscaler has announced the acquisition of Edge Networks, a company specializing in securing application-to-application communications within cloud environments and data centers. Edge Networks works to improve the security of so-called "east to west" communications between applications within a single enterprise infrastructure, rather than the "north to south" communications that tend to flow between companies and their suppliers, partners, and customers.

Edge Networks marks Zscaler's second announced acquisition of the spring, following the April 9 notice of its intended purchase of Cloudneeti, a cloud security posture management company.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
