Each year, the highly respected analysts at Gartner publish their assessment of the content management sector—the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Content Services Platforms.
It’s highly recommended reading for everyone involved in the ECM/Content Services space. Not only does each report provide excellent insight into the evolving landscape—including new trends, use cases and emerging technologies—it also offers expert, unbiased analysis of how the leading vendors are adapting and progressing to meet these new needs.
Gartner’s Magic Quadrant reflects the changing face of ECM
Last year, Gartner changed the name of the report, dropping the long-standing term “Enterprise Content Management” from the title and replacing it with “Content Services Platforms.” They also revised the evaluation criteria employed to position vendor products.
Why? Business needs—and the technology solutions available to meet them—have changed. The age of the monolithic, enterprise-wide ECM stack is over. Enterprises—struggling to realize value from ever-increasing volumes of digital data generated by ever-diversifying sources—need quick, agile solutions to varied LOB problems.
Gartner is among the industry thought leaders emphasizing that content services help achieve these goals. Content services shift the focus of content management away from static ECM repositories and toward dynamic connections that seamlessly integrate with the processes that produce and, often, store digital information. They extend the traditional strengths of ECM into lead applications to bridge siloes, improve governance and speed information flows to the people that use this information.
The Magic Quadrant for Content Services Platforms explains this changing reality in greater detail, and goes on to assess which content management vendors are succeeding at meeting the new needs of digital enterprises.
We’re proud to say that OpenText™ Content Services solutions—including Content Suite and Documentum—are once again recognized as leaders in the Magic Quadrant for Content Services Platforms, following 12 years as a leader in Gartner’s ECM Magic Quadrant.
