Expanding Web Archiving in Canada

Welcome to our newest partners north of the border! The Council of Prairie and Pacific University Libraries (COPPUL) and the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) have joined forces in a multi-consortial offering of Archive-It. Working together, COPPUL and OCUL institutions are considering ways that they can significantly expand web archiving in Canada. Read the full story on the Internet Archive’s blog.

Catch up with web archiving presentations from Portland

About sixty(!) Archive-It partners and their peers gathered in Portland this summer to compare notes, share progress, and pose questions for the year to come in web archiving. If you could not join us in person this year, or if you ever want to revisit something that you learned in the room, visit this page in the Archive-It Help Center for all of the presenters’ materials as well as audio recordings of their talks. Thanks again to all of those who volunteered to stir the pot this year, and especially for recording your talks for your far-flung colleagues!

Archiving #Charlottesville

Partners at the University of Virginia Library are collecting, archiving, and preserving original materials related to the August 12 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville and community responses, including born digital materials. If you know of web sources that belong in this collection, you can nominate them through this form. Interested in leveraging web archiving tech to document and preserve events in your local communities? Don’t hesitate to reach out the Archive-It team at ait [at] archive [dot] org for help with creating collections and connecting with your colleagues locally and globally.

The New York Art Resources Consortium (NYARC) brings together the scope, resources, and know-how of librarians among New York City’s leading museum libraries. Archive-It upgrades to Elasticsearch

We are pleased to announce the release of Archive-It’s new full-text search software powered by Elasticsearch. This release enhances the search experience for patrons and partners by producing faster results, improved relevancy ranking, and stronger reliability when searching the full-text index of archived web pages. And since this is an infrastructural change, partners who use them will see the improvements immediately through their custom search portals or OpenSearch queries without having to change a thing! Improvements to Archive-It crawl report data

We are also very excited to announce the release of our new and improved back-end reporting infrastructure for crawl data. This is another “behind-the-scenes” change that should mostly appear to partners in the form of faster and more reliable access to information, but you might also notice a few small changes to the typical post-crawl report as well. Archive-It’s advanced training webinar series continues! Thanks to all who have attended already, given us good feedback, and suggested topics for future training. In response to your suggestions, we’ll host an advanced training on Social Media Archiving with Archive-It on Tuesday, November 14.
